Syrian Ghazal scale new heights in High Jump- Asian Grand Prix 2nd leg

Pathumthani, 26 June: Ghazal Majd Eddin of Syria erupted with jubilance after clearing 2.29m in the men’s high jump final which not only brought him his maiden international gold medal but also secured him his 4th World championship participation and a new National record.  

Ghazal was determined to win this time and he did it finally after numerous silver place positions in his 8 year career in high jump.  

Iran’s Keyvan Ghanbarzadah failed to reply Ghazal’s height and had to settle on the silver medal with 2.26m. Chinese Taipei’s Hsing Chun-hsien took third place clearing 2.23m.

Weng Chunxia of China improved on her personal best in the Discus throw to 62.20m to retain Gold medal.  Weng is happy to achieve World Championship qualification but she still need to add few more meters to her personal best to secure berth in the National team.

“I am 4th best in the Country and only 3 can compete in Beijing so I would need to work more on the distance to guarantee my place” said Weng.  Her teammate Feng Bin maintained her second place with 58.19m while Thailand’s Subenrat Insaeng could not improve after her first round throw of 57.73m and remained on the third place.

Asian champion Inderjeet Singh of India added 2cm more to his 1st leg performance in the men’s shot put, enough to break existing Grand prix record of 19.84m.

Deeply religious and vegetarian, 130kg giant from the city of Bhiwani of Haryana state of India is confident of spectacular throw in the last leg of the series.

Chinese Guo Yanxing’s last round push earned him silver medal with a distance of 19.26m while his teammate Wang Guangfu managed 18.72m for third place. 

As many as 12 athletes remained unbeaten in the second leg and now they all hope to achieve hat trick of winning in the last leg. 

3nd and final leg of the Asian Grand Prix 2015 will be held on 29th June from 2:30pm onwards at Chanthaburi, 300km south of Bangkok.
