Subenrat Insaeng, age 22 of Thailand became the first Thai discus thrower to breach 60m barrier in the Women’s discus throw when she won Gold medal with a throw of 60.09m in Taiwan Open Athletics at Taipei City today (May 15). Silver and Bronze medal went to Tsai-Yi LI and Chiaying LIN of Chinese Taipei.
Subenrat is currently only non-Chinese thrower to feature in Top 10 of Asia in 2015. Thailand Athletes are known for their excellent record in the sprint and relay events at the Asian level.
Young Subenrat, first spotted by AAT coaches in South of Thailand in 2009, gradually started adding distance to her throws since she joined AAT Training centre in Bangkok. She is currently defending champion of South East Asian Games and will attempt to win three in a row next month in Singapore.
Hye Lim JUNG of South Korea recorded 2nd fastest time in Asia this year in the 100m hurdles with a performance of 13.27s.
You-Yi WU and Chih Han CHUANG clocked identical 13.86s for silver and bronze medal. In the men’s 110m hurdles Wei-Ting YANG of Chinese Taipei set new Chinese Taipei record with a timing of 13.82s.
In the women’s triple jump final Tran Huy Hoa of Vietnam scored win with a distance of 13.84m.
