Aug 1, 2015- As many as six new meet records were set in the recently held 25th edition of the Kosonov Memorial International Athletic meet at Almaty on July 25-26.
Meet is organized in the memory of Guzman Kosanov, silver medallist (4x100m) in the Rome 1960 Olympic Games, then representing USSR, who was the first Olympic Medallist from Kazakhstan.
Athletes from 11 European and Asian countries took part in the meet.
Hassan Taftian of Iran, Former Asian Junior champion and unbeaten in the Asian Grand Prix series 2015 continued his excellent form with blistering 10.10s in the men’s 100m to set new Iranian record as well as meet record. Reza Ghasemi also from Iran finished on the second place in 10.12s. Vitaliy Zemis, upcoming talented youngster from Kazakhstan took third place in 10.35s.
Another Iranian, Mohammed Hussein Abaraghi set new Iranian record in 200m and a meet record with a performance of 20.47s. Reza had to settle again in the second place in 20.68s.
In the women’s 100m, Asian leader Olga Safronova of Kazakhstan won the race in 11.30s however she equalled Asian leading performance of 11.20s in the heats. Olesya Povh of Ukraine finished close second in 11.32 and 400m specialist Yuliya Rakhmanova of host Kazakhstan took third place in 11.73s
Vitaliy Butrym of Ukraine won men’s 400m with record performance of 45.01s.
Men’s high jump was hotly contested where Batyrkhan Baymukhametov of Kazakhstan and Keyvan Ghanbarzadeh of Iran both cleared 2.25m, a new meet record. However Baturkhan was announced winner.
Sukhrob Khodyayev of Uzbekistan set new meet record in the men’s hammer throw with a throw of 78.22m. Mergen Mammedov of Turkmenistan finished distant second place with 66.02m. Abderaouf Musoyev of Tajikstan took third place in 57.81.
Women 4x100m relay event was held for the first time and Kazakhstan women team made most of it by winning it with a new national record of 43.30s. Uzbekistan team finished on the second place in 48.70s and third place went to Kyrgyzstan team in 49.95s.
