New Development Model – World Athletics

Former international athlete and businessman Jon Ridgeon announced as new IAAF Chief Executive Officer | PRESS-RELEASE | World Athletics

New Development Model World Athletics

World Athletics is creating a Development strategy plan which would effectively cater to the needs of a changing environment for Athletics and physical culture around the World. The present W.A. Development, competition and administration systems are being reviewed and Areas are being approached to solicit their opinions on the subject. An online meeting in this regard was held between AA Association and W.A. on 19 May 2021 to further explore and consider the proposed road map for this transformation. Mr. John Ridgeon CEO, W.A. and Helen Delany apprized the participants of this meeting regarding the proposed changes in the existing Development, Competition, Administration model and how the intended reforms would help to regenerate the WA system so it can perform well in the World of the future. President Dahlan and his team viewed and shared their concerns as to how to best implement these changes in Asia.

Gen Dahlan was of the view that any reforms should include the ongoing technical and financial support to the deserving MFs of the Area as soliciting activity from inactive Area MFs is a core point in the 4 years Asian strategy plan 2019.

Core Points of Discussion

  • Development of future W.A. strategy for growth in the area of Global health and fitness.
  • Online/distance learning education for Coaches and TOs.
  • Partnership of the Area with local partners for collective and sustainable growth.
  • Delivery of services and finance after a needs assessment of the Area and individual MFs.
  • Annual reports of outcomes which should be in line with defined KPIs.
  • All three parts Development, Competition, Administration to be covered under one single agreement with W.A and Area /MF.
  • W.A. and Area to continue support of deserving Area MFs.
  • W.A. to develop new, innovative, and effective learning materials for online courses.

President informed that the 5 Russian speaking MFs of Asia are presently without a formal development program. Formally these 5 Russian language MFs were affiliated with RDC Moscow and after the closure of this development center these well performing MFs need a regular Development program. It was agreed that both sides will continue to exchange their views on the new Development model so an efficient new framework can be created which is acceptable to all stakeholders.
