Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar wins Silver medal in High Jump at Rio Olympic Games

Rio, 18 Aug 2016- Once again Gold medal eluded Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar who improved on his bronze medal won four years back with a silver medal in the final of the men’s high jump at the Rio Olympic Games on 17th Aug. Mutaz, Asian record holder went in the competition as favorite, cleared all heights until 2.36m but failed to clear 2.38m, ended up on the second place behind Canada’s Derek Drouin.

In the men’s triple jump Dong Bin of China wanted to set new Asian record after his first jump measured 17.58m but he got injured in second round ,however his first round jump was enough for him to secure China’s second ever field event medal in the Olympic Games. Dong Bin won bronze medal in the men’s triple jump final at the Rio Olympic Games. Dong was pleased to improved from 10th in London 2012 to Bronze in 2016.  American duo Christian Taylor and Will Claye won gold and silver medal respectively.
