Nomi, Japan( 19th March) Every time Kim Hyun-Sub arrived in Nomi (Japan) to compete in Asian walking championship, he has always achieved podium position as well as an improvement in the Korean record but this time he could not break record; however, Kim now 31 years old secured Gold medal for Korea with a performance of 1:19:50hrs to become Asian 20km walking champion for the 3rd time. Kim, World championship medallist (2011) started with slow 19:43 for first 5k and by the time 10k mark crossed, he was in the leading group. Yamanishi of Japan tried to hold him at 15km mark but Kim was pushing his lead. Kim finished the race with almost a minute ahead of Georgiy Sheiko of Kazakhstan (1:20:47) and India’s Ifran Thodi (1:20:59).
In the Women’s 20KM Race walking, China’s Wang Na comfortably won the Gold medal for China with a performance of 1:30:51hrs. Host walker Kumiko Okada finished on the second place with a performance of 1:33:31 while Yeongeun Jeon of Korea took third place in 1:34:35hrs.
