Ibrahim of Qatar sets new record in Discus Throw- Day 3 of 17th Asian Junior Athletics

Ho Chi Minh- Ibrahim Moaaz Mohamed of Qatar set first championship record of the 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2016. Ibrahim erased 15 year old championship record of 60.14m set by Wu Tao of China, with a throw of 60.49m to win the men’s discus throw final. Ando Yume of Japan achieved best throw of 58.80m for silver medal. Yukinaga Shinichi, winner of shot put, added another medal to his tally by winning bronze medal with a throw of 54.79m.

Another Qatar athlete, Saifeldin Muhand Khamis won men’s 3000m steeplechase final with a performance of 9:26.79s. Host Vietnam runners Le Trung Duc (9:27.40s) and Le Quang Hoa (9:31.86s) finished on the second and third place respectively. 

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase final Mukai Chika of Japan won Gold medal with comfortable lead over two North Korean runners. Mukai clocked 10:21.04s to win while Ro Hyo Hyong took 10:31.02s to take silver medal and her teammate Ju Ok Byol finished on the third place with 10:41.91s.

Thailand women team (Charoensuk Parichat, Chattha On-uma, Runana Sureewan and Khongthong Suwimon ) claimed back 4x100m relay title from China winning in 45.23s. China settled on the second place with 45.41s. Hong Kong China was third with 45.84s. 

In the men’s 4x100m relay final Chinese Taipei team ( Yeh Shou Bo, Yang Chun Han, Liu Chao Hsuan and Shen Yu Sen) took top honours with a performance of 39.75s beating Malaysian team to second place. Malaysia clocked 39.91s while Thailand team took 40.36s to cover 400m for Bronze medal.

Muhammad Mohd Rizzua Haizad of Malaysia booked his place for World juniors with a last moment dip at the finish line to win men’s 110m hurdles in headwind performance of 14.00s. India’s Maymon Poulose made worthy of his team selection with silver medal in 14.02s. Zhang Tao of China was third in 14.05s. 

In the women’s 100m hurdles Yu Jiaru of China was declared winner after disqualification of winner Yumi Tanaka of Japan who was initially shown red card for foul start but later allowed to run under protest pending decision . Yu took 13.79s to win gold medal while two Chinese Taipei runners Cheng Tang Hsiu (13.97s) and Lin Shih Ting (14.11s) finished on the second and third place respectively. 

Fujita Keitaro of Japan won men’s high jump final clearing a height of 2.16m. Ahmad Muhammad Syazwan of Malaysia finished on the second place clearing 2.14m. Iraq’s Al-Ibraheemi Hussein Falah won bronze medal with 2.14m height clearance. 

Women’s triple jump final witnessed close dual between Kirthana Ramasamy of Malaysia and Mariya Ovchinnikova of Kazakhstan. Mariya was leading mid-way with a jump of 13.19m before Kirthana jumped to new personal best of 13.20m in the 4th attempt to take lead of just 1 cm over Mariya. Mairya could not better that distance and had to settle on the second place behind Kirthana. Kirthana not only won the gold medal but also achieved World junior qualification distance. Anna Gorodkova of Kazakhstan took bronze medal with a jump of 12.97m.  

Women’s pole vault title went to Chen Qiaoling of China clearing a height of 4.15m. Misaki Morota of Japan grabbed silver medal in 3.80m and Wu Chiaju of Chinese Taipei took bronze in 3.60m

Women’s Hammer Throw, last event of the day was won by Zhao Fan of China with a throw of 61.77m. Her teammate Ji Li took silver medal with a throw of 58.11m. Thailand’s Koomphon Mingkamon grabbed bronze medal throwing hammer to 56.44m.
