Asian Athletics Association’s flagship event Asian Athletics Championship’s 21st edition set to be the biggest ever Asian championship with preliminary entries swelling over to 1000 athletes from 45 Asian Countries.
Asia’s best athletes will compete for top honours which include direct entry for winners to the IAAF World Championship in Beijing.
“Asian championship is not only showcase of best in Asia but also a platform for new stars to emerge.” said Dahlan Al-Hamad, President of AAA.
Wuhan, known as the River city situated on the banks of Han River, branch of Yangtze River, the third largest river in the world. With over 10 million population and over 166 lakes and 74 parks, Wuhan offer exciting time for every visitor.
Wuhan Sports centre will host the championship from June 3. World leading Mondo synthetic track will be used for the championship.
With affordable ticketing prices, spectators would see top Asian athletes in action on all 5 days of the championship.
Headline act of the championship will be Asian record holder Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar in the men’s high jump who started his season with majestic 2.38m in Shanghai Diamond league.
Iran’s top discus thrower Ehsan Hadidi will be challenged by India’s Vikas Gowda who is in great form this season.
Kazakstan’s Olympic triple jump champion Olga Ryoakova started season with 14.48m is hopeful of adding another Asian title to her illustrious career.
Asian record holder Youssef Al-Masrahi (44.43s) of Saudi Arabia to face young Qatari boy Abdalelah Haroun (44.68s) in the men’s 400m.
China’s Zhang Peimeng looking to dip under 10 sec in blue ribbon event of 100m but he will have to overcome challenge from Asian record holder Femi Ogunode of Qatar and Yoshihide Kiryu of Japan and his teammate Su Bingtan.
China’s star athlete Liu Xiang will be honoured with special AAA award during the championship and Xie Wenjun (13.23s) of China will attempt to win 110m hurdles which Liu dominated over a decade.
India’s Inderjeet Singh has emerged favourite in the men’s shot put with his Asian leading throw of 20.65m in Federation Cup in India.
