The fifth Asian U18 Athletics Championship takes place from 27 to 30 April in Tashkent.
The Asian Youth Championships are usually held every two years. However, the postponement of the 4th Asian Championships in Kuwait due to the Covid-19 pandemic and health precautions for athletes and fans from 2021 to 2022, this is the first time the Athletics Championships have been held for two consecutive years.
Competitions in Tashkent brought together the best young athletes born in 2006-2007. from all countries of the Asian continent. As part of the ongoing championship, 524 athletes from 40 countries of the world have been announced, who will perform in 40 disciplines within four days. The competition program includes: – running for short and medium distances; -relay race; -jumping; – discus, javelin, and hammer throwing; -shot put; – heptathlon among girls and decathlon among boys; – sports walking and others.
On the first day, the winners in several disciplines were determined. For example, in the 5000m race walk, Yang Xizhen (China) and Liu Biling (China) took 1st and 2nd place respectively, but the bronze went to Aarti from India. Among the girls in the hammer throw, Zhang Jiale from China also proved to be the strongest with a score of 66.81.
Long jump favorite Davronova Sharifa of Uzbekistan placed second with 6.22m, while China’s Wu Binbin jumped 6.41m to bring her country another gold medal. But in the men’s shot put, Park Sihoon from Korea had no equal, his result of 20.11 helped him win gold, and by a large margin. The silver medalist Rakhmatulloev Abduazim (Uzbekistan) had a score of 17.47, and the bronze went to an athlete from Kuwait with a score of 17.42. Also on the first day, the best at a distance of 1500m was determined. Among the boys, Priyanshu from India was the fastest in 3:57.37, while among the girls, Nguyen Khanh Linh from Vietnam was the fastest. Her result is 4:35.15.
